About Nalan Seafoods
Nalan Seafoods is a wholesale seafood distribution business in Darwin, commencing operations in December 2025. The business is 100% Aboriginal owned, led by co-owners Mr Robert (Bo) Carne and Ms Sharon (Shay) Vigona-Goudge.
Bo is Bardi and Jabirr Jabirr heritage from the Dampier Peninsular, WA and Shay is Tiwi Island and Warumungu heritage, NT. Both owners have extensive leadership experience working in government and NFP organisations.
Nalan is the Bardi word for ‘spring tide’.
The business provides fresh and frozen seafood to interstate markets, local retailers, hospitality venues, and institutional clients.
The operational strategy prioritises sourcing high-quality, sustainably caught seafood, leveraging advanced logistics and cold-chain management, and actively building relationships within Aboriginal communities for employment and working closely with commercial fishers for supply opportunities.
During the first two-months of operation, the business has mostly focused on capital improvements and the negotiation of supply contracts. Bo has been able to use his networks to negotiate an extensive five-year supply contract of seafood which will help secure the business in its inception period.
